Maloney finds the going tough

Zane Maloney improved on his performance in qualifying but still had to settle for 15th place at the end of Race 1 at the Circuit Zandvoort in the Netherlands yesterday morning.

It was his second race so far in the nine completed rounds of the 2021 Formula Regional European Championship in which he did not collect any points. The first occurred in the season’s opening race at the Imola Circuit where he retired early because of a mechanical issue.

Maloney had a promising practice session, clocking the 13th fastest time on the track of 1 minute, 41.4 seconds.

In qualifying, he improved on his time but so did the rest of the field. His time of 1 minute, 32.339 seconds was good enough for 21st place, meaning he would have to do a lot of overtaking in Race 1 to secure a scoring finish. (NM)
