Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley has been commended for her management of the COVID-19 pandemic in Barbados by renowned American economics professor Jeffrey Sachs.

He joined her on stage at the Sir Arthur Lewis Institute of Social and Economic Studies, The University of the West Indies, Cave Hill yesterday for a Conversation On Sustainable Island Futures, part of “The Vice Chancellor’s Forum” series of discussions.

Sachs told Mottley: “You are doing a magnificent job in the midst of a tremendous, unprecedented challenge of our time – COVID-19. You have had great success.

“We [Sachs’ family] have experienced it ourselves – the rigour of Barbadians in keeping this pandemic under control.”

“The care, the diligence, the attention, the testing, the hygiene is exactly right and you have created an environment in which this gets done,” he added as he compared COVID-19 management in Barbados with the way it was being handled in the United States. (GC)
