New name for hospitality institute

The Barbados Community College’s (BCC) hospitality institute has a new name.

It is now the Jean & Norma Holder Hospitality Institute. The name of the hotel, PomMarine, remains unchanged.

An unveiling ceremony took place yesterday attended by Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley, Minister of Education Santia Bradshaw, management of the institute and Jean Holder, the widower of the late Norma Holder, who died in 2016.

The Holders were honoured for their contribution to education, culture and tourism and to the BCC in particular, as Norma Holder was a former principal there. In expressing gratitude, Jean Holder said his late wife was consumed with the BCC and constantly worked to improve it.

“I am very glad this institution will bear her name and also that mine is attached to it as well. She deserves it and [for my part] I hope with the time I have left I can continue to be of service to my country,” he said. (CA)
