Barbadian cyclist Amber Joseph struck gold at the Pan American Track Cycling Championships yesterday in Peru.

The 21 year-old professional won the women’s scratch race ahead of Mexico’s Victoria Velasco and Alexi Costa of Trinidad and Tobago.

Joseph clocked 15 minutes to finish strong and win the 10-kilometer race of 40 laps.

“It was a surprise, I had no idea what my form was going to be like compared to the other girls. I just did the race to the best of my ability. Something told me if I got to the front I would win, and two laps to go, I was able to hold on. It is so amazing. I am on top of the world right now, but business isn’t done, I still have three more events,” she told Nation News. (AGB)
