The National Petroleum Corporation (NPC) gave the assurance a short while ago that routine maintenance being undertaken in Christ Church “is not dangerous”.

A notice said the NPC “ is in the process of refilling its odourant tank in the Woodbourne, Christ Church area”.

The NPC said “during this routine maintenance fumes will escape into the atmosphere, giving the impression of a gas leak”. It said the exercise should take about two hours.

There were reports that people in the area expressed concern about a strong odour.
