Cummins: COVID here to stay

Minister of Tourism Senator Lisa Cummins says Barbados must get past the fear of COVID-19 for the tourism industry and the economy to restart effectively.

“If we don’t accept that COVID is here to stay and it is here to stay for the foreseeable future, we will not be able to recover in the shortest time,” Cummins told the virtual annual general meeting of Intimate Hotels of Barbados earlier today.

“Life is moving on in the world…because there is an acceptance that COVID is with us,” she added.

Cummins said: “By now we have to move past the initial fear and begin to live in a state of functional management of COVID in the midst of a pandemic. There will be cases but we have to ensure that we have to mitigate against that by considering getting vaccinated if we have not already done so.”  (GC)
