There must be an immediate return to monthly meetings of the sub-committee of the Social Partnership, and high on the agenda must be unemployment, rising incidences of poverty and social decay.

So says general secretary of the Congress of Trade Unions and Staff Associations (CTUSAB) Dennis de Peiza, who was speaking during a press conference at Merry Hill, Welches, St Michael on Tuesday.

“The Congress is pressing its demand for the convening of a meeting of the sub-committee of the Social Partners, [and] publicly expresses its disappointment in the delay experienced in having its request for a meeting of the Social Partnership convened. We feel we cannot have a situation where consultation is not given,” he said.

He said his understanding was they usually received a phone call informing them an announcement would be given “now”. (RA)
