Rain reduced the first Twenty20 International between West Indies and Pakistan in Barbados to a nine overs-a-side contest before forcing a no-result.
Windies captain Kieron Pollard led the way with one four and two sixes in 22 not out off only nine balls, and the Caribbean side – sent into bat – reached 85 for five from their allocation of nine overs, after a delay to the start of the match at Kensington Oval of three hours and 45 minutes.
But Pollard and his side did not have a chance to defend the target because the rain descended on Bridgetown towards the end of the West Indies innings, and with the amount of time lost before the start, the cut-off time crept up on the two teams and ruled out further action.
It means that the series is now practically a three-match contest with the remainder of the T20Is set for this coming Saturday, Sunday, and Tuesday at the Guyana National Stadium.
The time spent on the field was enough for West Indies to suffer another injury setback when opener Lendl Simmons suffered a blow to the right side of his neck, essaying a pull at a bouncer from debutant pacer Mohammad Wasim in the second over.
Simmons was floored immediately and needed treatment from Windies physiotherapist Denis Byam before getting back up on to his feet and retired hurt on nine, leaving the field with his right-arm in a sling.
