What started off as a remembrance rally at the Emancipation Statue yesterday ended in a public stance against marginalisation of the Rastafarian community.

Head of the African Heritage Foundation, Paul “Ras Simba” Rock, used the event held in Haggatt Hall, St Michael, as a platform to get a message to Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley and to start a petition lobbying for the homes of Rastafarians to be recognised as places of worship so they could have their spiritual sacrament there.

“I am here to speak about the newest form of colonisation under our present Government that has taken the people of Barbados. I speak of cannabis colonisation,” said Rock.

“Unfortunately, the economic benefits that will come from this plant, the Government doesn’t want to see that to the Rastafari community.” (SB)
