A group of Barbados’ best young cricketers are vying for spots on the West Indies team for the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup next January to February in the Caribbean.

On Sunday, the 11 Barbadians, as well as three St Lucians, left the island for a training camp in Antigua that will involve 56 players from around the Caribbean.

Two other Barbados players could be added to the squad, as all-round sportsman Jaden Leacock is still recovering from a finger injury and hard-hitting batsman Kevin Wickham has a broken leg.

Two other Barbadians who could qualify for the team will not be in the line-up, however. Fast bowler Che Simmons opted out of selection after finalising his agreement to represent Warwickshire in the second tier of the English county championship, the same side to which Jacob Bethell has signed, paving the way for that duo to possibly turn out for England.
