Minister praises Olympians

Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment Dwight Sutherland has joined with the wider sporting community in praising the efforts of the Barbados team at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Sutherland offered congratulations to the eight athletes – swimmers Alex Sobers and Danielle Titus, sprinters Tristan Evelyn and Mario Burke, hurdlers Tia-Adana Belle and Shane Brathwaite and quarter-milers Sada Williams and Jonathan Jones – especially considering a COVID-19 interrupted season and limited competition over the last 12 months.

“On behalf of the Government and people of Barbados, I want to applaud the athletes who represented Barbados on the highest stage for athletics. They have now become truly global citizens after having the opportunity not only to showcase their talents but to rub shoulders with athletes from across the world,” Sutherland told Sun Sport in a telephone interview on Friday.

“To represent your country at the highest level, irrespective of the discipline, is a proud achievement and to do so at the Olympic Games is the ultimate honour. They have made themselves and Barbados proud.” (NM)
