Rawle Brancker was an outstanding Combermerian, a devoted family man, an astute businessman who shared his expertise with others, a former honorary consul to Sweden and a man given to service.

But of all the accolades heaped on the outstanding Barbadian at his funeral service yesterday, it was the gentlemanly nature of Brancker that was highlighted by all who spoke.

Several tributes were paid at the near three-hour funeral service in the chapel at Coral Ridge Memorial Gardens, Christ Church, where Acting Governor General Dr Jeffrey Gibson and Chief Justice Sir Patterson Cheltenham joined cricketing legends National Hero Sir Garfield Sobers and Sir Charles Griffith and Sir Wes Hall and other members of the cricketing fraternity, members of the business community, and friends and members of the Brancker family to say farewell.

President of Barbados Cricket Association and Cricket West Indies director Conde Riley shared snippets of Brancker’s exploits as a cricketer from his student days at Combermere School, through his years of playing for Empire Cricket Club.
