Talented Barbadian teen tennis player Hannah Chambers battled bravely but could not overcome Australian Zara Larke in the girls’ singles final at the J5 Santo Domingo Tournament in the Dominican Republic on Saturday.

The 18-year-old went down in straight sets 4-6, 3-6 after negotiating her way smartly through the opening rounds.

She defeated Canadian Anlin Xie in the first round 6-3, 6-3 and followed that with a similarly dominant second-round win over United States’ Savanna Salahuddin-Wright, also in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0.

Chambers required a tiebreak to defeat American Brenda Yoris in the semi-final. Yoris won the first set 6-7 but Chambers stormed back with a 6-2 win in the second set. She then rallied to claim the tiebreak 10-7 and advance to the final. (NM)
