Verla De Peiza and Guy Hewitt, who are vying for position of Democratic Labour Party president, were both at the party’s George Street, St Michael headquarters for the beginning of the voting process this morning.
General secretary of the DLP, Damien Griffith, said there has been a steady stream of people at George Street, as voting got under way at 10 a.m.
Griffith said the number of people voting at the annual conference has been increasing since 2019.
The party also has COVID-19 protocols which will be in place over the next few days.
Hewitt said he is looking forward to a large turnout for voting. He said he remains committed to the DLP, which has always had his support and will continue to have it “into the far future”.
De Peiza said she has faith in the voting process and is prepared to live with the outcome.
She said competition is always healthy as long as there is “sportsmanship” and not “gamesmanship”.
De Peiza said she has plans that can be carried on seamlessly.
Among those spotted at George Street were Dame Maizie Barker-Welch who was being assisted with voting, former MP Hamilton Lashley and candidate Paul Gibson. (KG)
