The Barbados Fire Service is battling a fire in the country’s capital, Bridgetown.

Acting Fire Chief, Henderson Patrick told the media moments ago they had advised owners of retail stores in the Colonnade Mall, not to allow staff members into the facility until further notice, because the fire had not yet been fully brought under control.

Broad Street and Prince William Henry Street have been blocked off, as fire-fighters from three tenders, remain on the scene.

Thick smoke could be seen coming from the building. Patrick indicated Fire Service personnel were aware of where the blaze was concentrated, and efforts were continuing to bring it under control. (BA)
