The much anticipated new driver licence cards should soon be distributed.

Minister of Transport, Works and Water Resources Ian Gooding-Edghill announced earlier this week that the 100 000 cards would be in Barbados this month.

Gooding-Edghill said the cards were specially designed and manufactured and embedded with security features to reduce counterfeit and fraud.

“So the Chief Licensing Officer has advised that 100 000 cards should be on island. They are due to arrive this month,” he said.

He revealed that his ministry had already devised a plan to roll out the distribution of the new cards and the Licensing Authority would be working extended hours to achieve this.

Gooding-Edghill said he would update the public further next week. (MB)
