Two musical stalwarts are calling on their counterparts to rethink how they sell themselves to an audience in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Cultural ambassador Stedson Red Plastic Bag Wiltshire said there was no magic bullet, and artistes would not be able to flip a switch when COVID-19 is over.
“I think what COVID-19 has taught us is that we have been putting too much of our music in one Crop Over basket. We have to broaden our approach to the music we are making so we can have wider appeal. When COVID really hit, the music we had was not uplifting enough. When people wanted music that appealed to the emotions and songs that were uplifting, soca music was found lacking,” he said.
Wiltshire was part of a panel on yesterday’s Sunday Brass Tacks on Starcom Network, that also included award-winning musician Nicholas Brancker, UWI lecturer Dr Stefan Walcott and chief executive officer of the National Cultural Foundation, Carol Roberts-Reifer. (RA)
