A 23-year-old Barbadian woman was shot and killed in Guyana on Wednesday night.

Guyana Police say Shanicka Forde and her 26-year-old Guyanese boyfriend, Daniel Fraser, were on their way home from a shop on his motorcycle when an unknown gunman opened fire around 11:30 p.m. in the area of ‘B’ Field Sophia.

Forde was on vacation and staying with a friend in South Sophia and according to news reports out of Guyana, recently developed a relationship with Fraser, a Lance Corporal in the Guyana Defence Force. He lived in ‘A’ Field.

The gunman, who was on a bicycle, reportedly discharged six rounds in their direction before escaping.

Both fell off the motorbike and were later picked up by Fraser’s brother and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital in a taxi where they were pronounced dead.

Police said Forde received three shots – one to the chest, right knee and right side of the abdomen – and Fraser a single shot to the chest. A postmortem is to be conducted.

No one was arrested and investigations are continuing.  (SAT)
