National volleyballer Shonte Seale made a historic debut for Norfolk University with a record-equalling 24 successful spikes in the NCAA Division 1 Women’s Competition on Tuesday.

Her performance pulled the Spartans from two sets down to hold game and match point three times before they lost to the Hampton Pirates, 19-25, 20-25, 25-20, 25-21, 18-20 at the Gill Gymnasium in Norfolk, Virginia.

The 5ft, 10in Seale, whose tremendous elevation destroys net and ground defence, matched the third-highest number of successful spikes ever scored by a Spartan.

Not known for her ground defence, the 22-year-old, a junior college transferee from Dakota College, also executed 14 digs to complete a memorable double-double. (KB)
