Police today arrested a man after giving chase in St George.

A statement from police said a firearm and ammunition were recovered.

Police said around 3 p.m. while travelling along Constant Road, St George, members of the Major Crime Unit, assisted by other personnel and acting on information, signalled the driver of a vehicle to stop by use of the siren.

“Having signalled the vehicle to stop, the driver refused and engaged the police in a pursuit as he sped away through traffic towards the Dash Valley, St George area. The chase continued and the driver lost control and crashed his vehicle in a corner along the said roadway,” a statement said.

“He exited the vehicle and ran off. He was chased and was holding a firearm as he ran. Police ordered him to drop the firearm. He didn’t and was engaged by the police. He then dropped the firearm and ran away. He was later captured and arrested. One firearm and a number of rounds of ammunition were recovered from the scene.”

Police said that no one was injured as a result of the exchange. Investigations are ongoing. (PR)
