Husbands stars with five wins

Skygaze, piloted by Patrick Husbands, landed the CAN$100 000 Belle Mahone Stakes on Sunday at the Woodbine Racetrack in Canada to crown a memorable weekend for the ace Barbadian jockey.

Husbands broke the 7-4 favourite in the 1 700-metre trip on the Polytrack and sat the four-year-old bay filly a touch off pacesetter Fate Factor, who led the way through the opening quarter, timed at 0:24.79 seconds.

Skygaze continued to track Fate Factor through the half in 0:48.73 secs and the positions were reversed when the race reached the three-quarter mark.

However, it was a no-contest midway down the lane as Skygaze widened her lead and romped to a three-length victory – her fifth win from 11 career starts – for owner Tracy Farmer. The winning time was one minute, 42.73 seconds. (LY/AR)
