BASSETERRE – St Kitts and Nevis Patriots are the champions of this year’s Caribbean Premier League (CPL) Twenty20.

The Patriots claimed the title for the first time with a three-wicket victory over St Lucia Kings in a closely contested final on home soil at Warner Park in St Kitts.

Left-handed Barbadian all-rounder Dominic Drakes, son of former Barbados and West Indies all-rounder Vasbert Drakes, was the hero for the Patriots with the bat in their successful chase of 160 for victory.

Drakes cracked three fours and three sixes in a career-best, unbeaten 48 from 24 balls and guided the Pats over the finish line off the very last ball of the match.

Earlier, Twenty20 World Cup-bound, Barbadian all-rounder Roston Chase stroked 43 and burly West Indies Test teammate Rahkeem Cornwall hit the same score to anchor the Kings to 159 for seven from their allocation of 20 overs.

Summarised scores:

ST LUCIA KINGS 159 for seven off 20 overs (Roston Chase 43, Rahkeem Cornwall 43, Keemo Paul 39; Nassem Shah 2-26, Fawad Ahmed 2-32). ST KITTS & NEVIS PATRIOTS 160 for seven off 20 overs (Dominic Drakes 48, Joshua da Silva 37, Sherfane Rutherford 25, Fabian Allen 20; Wahab Riaz 2-36).
