168 test positive for COVID-19

Barbados recorded one of its highest daily numbers of COVID-19 cases on Tuesday.

Health authorities said the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory identified 168 new cases of the viral illness.

The new cases, comprise 81 males and 87 females, and were out of a total of 1 628 tests examined.

Of the new cases, 33 were from young people under the age 18, and 133 were from adults 18 years and older. The age of one person was unknown.

There are now 881 people in isolation across the island.

To date, there have been 6 904 cases of COVID-19 identified in Barbados – 3 432 males and 3 472 females out of 300 479 tests performed at the public health laboratory.

Health authorities also said 128 161 first doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered under the national vaccination programme.

They added, 99 117 people (36.6 per cent of the population) have so far received their second doses of a COVID-19 vaccine and are fully vaccinated.
