Ninety-six-year-old Louise “Carmen” Moore escaped unscathed when her timber house went up in flames yesterday morning.

In a viral video, Moore was seen leaving her home with a bag and making her way down the street as the fire engulfed the rear part of her Drax Hall Hope, St George home.

An emergency call was made to the Barbados Fire Service around 8:46 a.m. with two tenders, one from St John and the other from Bridgetown, arriving soon after.

Seven fire officers under the command of Station Officer Roger Bourne brought the blaze under control.

In the evening, Binta Thomas, who lives a short distance away in 1st Avenue Greens, told the DAILY NATION she was relieved her great aunt was doing fine.
