Fisherfolk take issue with regulations draft

Fisherfolk are unhappy with some aspects of recently proposed changes to the fisheries (management) regulations and have drafted a response letter.

Their representative Samuel Inniss, known for his battles with businesses – especially hotels – affecting the coastlines, went to the Ministry of Maritime Affairs’ offices at Cube Blue, University Row, St Michael, yesterday where he met with Minister Kirk Humphrey and handed him the letter.

Humphrey expressed surprise at the move as he said Inniss had already sent him an emailed copy of the same letter and questioned why he had involved the media.

“This is a process we made available to the public and we’ve had a number of virtual meetings with fisherfolk as well as face-to-face meetings on this matter. We want people to involve themselves in the conversation. (CA)
