The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade is footing a BDS$41.7 million bill for its overseas missions for the financial year 2021-2022.

That amount covers goods and services ($17.7 million) and the rest ($24 million) is for salaries, National Insurance Scheme contributions, personal emoluments, representation and personal allowances for 11 embassies, two High Commissions, three Consulate-Generals and two Permanent Missions – one to the United Nations and the other to the United Nations at Geneva.

Those 18 missions, an increasefrom the 14 in 2020, have a staff roster of 68.
And the sums of money could increase if the Government follows through with plans to add missions to Asia. (NS)
