Zane Maloney once again had to fight his way through the pack and finished eighth for the second consecutive race as the eighth round of the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine concluded yesterday at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia, Spain.

Maloney had a less than satisfactory qualifying session yesterday morning. He was the 11th fastest, a slight improvement from Saturday’s qualifying in which he was the 12th fastest driver.

Undeterred, the Barbadian racer had a dream start and sped his way up the grid. With lots of close battles going on ahead of him, overtaking became difficult for Maloney as the race wore on and he settled for another eighth place and four points added to his overall total of 149 points.

Russian driver Michael Belov of G4 Racing was a worthy winner on the day and is another driver who has found an extra gear at the business end of the season. Saturday’s winner Franco Colapinto of MP Motorsport had to settle for second place. Overall table leader Gregoire Saucy made up for Saturday’s 12th placed finish with another trip to the podium as he finished third. (NM)
