Many employers demanding workers be vaccinated do not have a large number of unionised employees, said general secretary of the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU) Toni Moore.
This was hampering the union’s ability to deal with the issue.
“How the BWU responds will largely be based on the level of BWU representation in the companies involved. Up to now we have not had that kind of push in unionised environments which has been observed in non-unionised environments.
“We are aware there has been an outcry for [us] to do something and our position is, where there is not recognition of the BWU, to reassert at every opportunity we get at the social partnership level that companies should not be imposing those mandates,” she said.
Yesterday during a media conference on the union’s 80th anniversary and Founder’s Day in the Hugh Springer Auditorium, Solidarity House, Harmony Hall, St Michael, Moore said the union was still taking a dim view of the forced vaccination issue. (CA)
