Estranged husband Applon Ishmael Ithamar Parris, who stabbed Constable Shayne Welch 19 times in his driveway, has begged the court to release him from prison while he still has “some youth” left in him.

“Yes I accept that justice has to be meted out and I will accept the consequences of my actions,” Parris said yesterday.

“But I would also like to have some youth left in me when I am to leave prison so I can continue with my pursuit of knowledge and use the skills I have learnt prior to my imprisonment,” he told the court.

The self-confessed murderer made the plea yesterday when he reappeared in the No. 2 Supreme Court.

Parris, of Taitts Road, Brittons Hill, St Michael, had pleaded guilty, at an earlier Session of the Continuous Sittings, to the non-capital murder of Constable Welch on March 26, 2018. (HLE)
