There is no tropical storm or hurricane to the East of Barbados.

Director of the Barbados Meteorological Services, Sabu Best, assured the public that the weather presently being experienced is as a result of “a few systems” affecting the island and causing moderate to heavy showers, resulting in isolated flash flooding in small communities.

He added that there was also some “significant lightning activity” which prompted the BMS to trigger a severe thunderstorm watch and warning for the island.

Best explained that the island was experiencing unstable conditions which would result in moderate to heavy showers resulting in further flooding throughout the weekend.

“We want to inform Barbadians to be vigilant about this situation and about the possibility of flooding at any time over the weekend and into early Monday,” he cautioned.

But, he stressed that did not mean there was a storm or hurricane to the east of the country. He also emphasised that if a system did pose a threat to the island, residents would be alerted through the official channels.

Those channels outlined are, the BMS website at www.barbadosweather.org, its Facebook page, or through its Twitter and Instagram channels. He added that persons may also visit the Department of Emergency Management’s website at www.dem.gov.bb for information on systems that may threaten the island.

Best also noted that any alert that needed quick attention would be sent out via the Common Alerting Protocol app, CAP.CAP or through the BMS mobile app, BMS Insight. (BGIS)
