New COVID cases back over 300

The Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory reported 342 new COVID-19 cases, 164 males and 178 females, on Monday, October 11 from 2 781 tests.

The new cases comprise 82 people under the age of 18, and 260 who are 18 years and older.

There are 537 people in isolation facilities, and 2 284 in home isolation.

Three deaths were confirmed, a 59-year-old woman and an 88-year-old man, who passed away at the Accident & Emergency Department of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, and a 76-year-old man who died at Harrison’s Point Isolation Facility. All of them were unvaccinated.

The death toll from the virus is 101.

Barbados has documented 11 474 confirmed cases (5 550 males and 5 924 females) of COVID-19, since March last year.

The public health laboratory has conducted 345 246 tests, since February 2020.

Under the National Vaccination Programme, 142 623 first doses of the COVID-19 vaccines were administered, and this represents 62.4 per cent of the eligible population.

To date, 113 022 people (41.7 per cent of the total population) or 49.5 per cent of the eligible population, received second doses and are now fully vaccinated. The eligible population represents those who are 12 years and older. (BGIS)
