320 new COVID-19 cases

Health authorities said on Thursday that another 320 people were identified as positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory out of 2 551 tests conducted on Wednesday, October 13.

Of the 133 males and 187 females who make up the new cases, 69 were young people under the age of 18, and 251 were adults.

There are 578 people in the island’s eight isolation facilities, and 2 519 in home isolation.

The authorities said 12,105 confirmed cases (5 839 males and 6 266 females) of COVID-have been detected in the island from March last year out of 350 270 tests conducted by the public health laboratory.

In addition, the Immunisation Unit of the Ministry of Health & Wellness said 143 661 (62.9 per cent of the eligible population) have received first doses of a COVID-19 vaccine under the national vaccination programme.

The total number of people who are fully vaccinated moved to 114 570 (42.3 per cent of the total population or 50.2 per cent of the eligible population).

The eligible population represents anyone 12 years and older.
