Shut-ins will be prioritised to receive the one-dose Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines that recently arrived as a gift from the government and people of the Republic of Guyana.

The roll out of the 7 000 doses will begin from as early as next weekend, said Dr Elizabeth Ferdinand, one of the Coordinators of the National Vaccination Programme for COVID-19.

She explained that the mobile medical unit, led by private doctors, would be administering the vaccine to seniors who could not make it out to the vaccination sites.

Ferdinand added that the one-dose injection would make the process easier from a human resource perspective, as the team would only have to visit once.

Shut-ins who have not yet registered to have the vaccine may call the Immunisation Unit at telephone number 536-8222 to request a visit from the mobile medical team. (BGIS)
