Volcanic smoke from La Palma Volcano in the Canary Islands is visible here in Barbados, says the Barbados Meteorological Services in a brief statement on its Facebook page.

La Palma is located off the northwest coast of Africa.

The eruption started on September 19 and destroyed more than 2 000 properties, forcing the evacuation of about 6 000 people.

The banana plantations were also decimated and lava continues to pour from the volcano. (SAT)
