Government is working on building more world-class sporting facilities in Barbados.

Minister of Sports Dwight Sutherland says there are plans to erect additional swimming arenas to international standards.

“To develop swimmers, we need more facilities. The Aquatic Centre is inundated with requests and we need at least two or three more swimming facilities, and not only for swimming, but diving as well. We need to engage in diving as a sport,” Sutherland told Weekend Sport.

“We are now looking to see where is best to place a swimming facility in the east or south-east of the country so that persons from St John, St Joseph, and St Andrew and certain parts of St George can get to that facility easily so that the kids can have more time swimming. Those are some of the initiatives we are working on,” he added. (AGB)
