Windies eager for winning start

After all the long talk, the time for performance on the field has arrived.

West Indies start their bid for a third ICC Men’s Twenty20 World Cup title against the ol’ enemy England today at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi, a repeat of the final in the previous edition of the tournament five years ago.

In that final, Barbadian Carlos Brathwaite struck four successive sixes off Ben Stokes in the final over, handing the Windies an unlikely victory on a balmy night in the Indian city of Mumbai and their second T20 World Cup title.

Brathwaite and Daren Sammy, the West Indies captain on both occasions they won the title, will be watching from the comfort of the radio and TV commentary boxes, respectively, but that final remains stuck in the craw of the English and helps to form the build-up for the match, which has been less than ideal for the Caribbean side.
