Walcott widens lead with treble

Date:

The experienced Rico Walcott is set to be crowned champion jockey for the second straight year at the Century Mile Racetrack in Canada on Saturday following a glorious hat-trick on Friday in Edmonton, Canada.

The defending champion piloted home Vivien’s Charm, Oneofthemgirls and Maryam to widen the gap on his nearest challenger, jockey Enrique Alonzo Gonzales, to nine clear wins. Walcott now has 66 wins and earnings of CAN$748 540.

Highlighting Walcott’s successes was his victory on Oneofthemgirls in the feature CAN$50 000 CTHS Sales Stakes over seven furlongs.

The two-year-old chestnut filly, who was installed favourite, blitzed the field to win by six and a quarter lengths in one minute, 23.88 seconds. (LY)
