Oein Josiah is now the four-time Barbados National Triathlon men’s champion.

The 32-year-old Guyanese-born produced a sublime display yesterday morning to win the three-event Olympic race emphatically and defend his crown on The Mighty Grynner Highway.

Chasing victory in front of a small crowd on Brandons, Josiah, who was first out of the blocks in the 1 500-metre swim, fell behind early as Cary Banfield held the lead coming out of the water.

Gregory Austin surged ahead, creating a gap between himself and the other competitors in the ten-lap (40 kilometre) bike race.
