358 new virus cases

The Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory identified 358 new COVID-19 cases, 185 males and 173 females, on Wednesday, October 27.

Of this number, 72 people were under the age of 18, and 286 were 18 years and older. The facility conducted 2 275 tests.

There were 748 people in isolation facilities, and 4 976 in home isolation.

Two deaths were recorded on Wednesday – a 55-year-old male, and a 63-year-old male, who died on October 26, but was subsequently confirmed positive for COVID-19.  They were both unvaccinated.  Their deaths bring the number of lives lost to the viral illness to 151 as at October 27.

To date, 147 978 people – 64.8 per cent of the eligible population – have received at least one dose of the vaccine under the National COVID-19 Vaccination Campaign.  A total of 124 043 people (45.8 per cent of the total population or 54.3 per cent of the eligible population) have received their second doses and are fully vaccinated.  The eligible population represents people who are 12 years and older.

Since the start of the pandemic, Barbados has conducted 382 688 tests and recorded 16 782 confirmed cases (8 145 males and 8 637 females) of COVID-19.  (MHW/BGIS)
