History could be created around 4:30 p.m. today at the Garrison Savannah when People’s Champ aims to become the first horse in 12 years to win the local Triple Crown.

People’s Champ, who is co-owned by the Kids Syndicate and Trinidadian Stephan Narinesingh, is the overwhelming favourite to log his third successive win and land the 82nd edition of the prestigious Barbados Derby, which will be contested over 2 000 metres.

“His preparations have been going very well, excellent, no problems, no complaints,” co-owner Mohommed Mohamad said.

“His last gallop was on Monday, and it went down very well and will be his last for the week. He only did light work [yesterday] morning. His conditioning is fantastic. The team has done an excellent job and we are very happy.” (LY)
