Mixed views on Toppin’s decision to go

In wishing Member of Parliament for St Michael North Ronald Toppin well on his departure from elective politics, some residents are demanding that whoever is chosen to replace him must do better to represent the entire constituency.

That sentiment was expressed yesterday by some residents of Eden Lodge, Hinds Hill and Cave Hill, who had mixed reactions to Toppin’s announcement earlier this week that after six terms, he would not be contesting the next general election. The announcement was made during a branch meeting.

Cave Hill resident Carlos Hunte described Toppin as a good guy but said they deserved better.

“He got a lot of personal votes but as far as the representation is concerned, it is flawed. I wish Mr Toppin all the best. He has tried but sometimes your best is not good enough. (TG)
