Former Frederick Smith Secondary School student Cadejah Arthur will fulfil her dream of being a jockey when she mounts Shakedemupnoble in the fourth race today on Barbados Derby Day at the historic Garrison Savannah.

The 27-year-old mother of a nine-year-old boy said she always dreamt of being a jockey.

“I have a cousin who is a jockey and I would watch him exercising and riding the horses. When I expressed interest in being a jockey he discouraged my mother from allowing me to pursue that dream.

“However, a friend who is also a jockey told me about Robert Peirce’s riding school and I started attending that school.

“After I learned all of the basics, I was able to get my exercise certificate and my apprentice licence and I joined Chandler’s Stable, which also provided me with the opportunity to ride my first race,” she said.

Arthur is also down to ride Classical Dancer in the eighth race on the day’s card. (KB)
