Parents may soon know whether the Pfizer vaccine has been approved for their pre-teens.
Chief Medical Officer Dr Kenneth George said yesterday the Ministry of Health was closer to deciding whether primary schoolchildren in Barbados could be inoculated against COVID-19.
He was speaking at the Pan American Health Organisation’s (PAHO) headquarters at Dayrells Road, St Michael, yesterday, where PAHO representative Dr Yitades Gebre presented medical supplies and equipment, comprising notebooks, printers, respirators and overalls, to Minister of Health Jeffrey Bostic.
“The FDA [United States Food and Drug Administration] and CDC [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention] have given approval for use of vaccines in their population. Barbados has examined the evidence but, remember, we have multiple sources to examine and I think PAHO/World Health Organisation is not there yet. But once those sources are brought to the attention of the public health team, we will make a determination,” George said. (TG)
