Junior Pan American Games start today

Zahra Gaskin and Chara Hinds will be the first Barbadian athletes to compete at the inaugural Junior Pan American Games which start today in Cali, Columbia.

Both Gaskin and Hinds, are set to participate in the women’s triathlon beginning at 9 a.m. (Barbados time) on a quest to produce the island’s first medal.

An hour later, CARIFTA aquatic gold medallist Kelani Talma will make her first splash in the pool in the 100-metre butterfly event. She also competes in the 200-metre butterfly and 100-metre freestyle competitions.

“I am thrilled to have been selected to represent Barbados at the upcoming Junior Pan Am Games in Cali, Colombia,” Talma told Nation Online.

“I am very excited to travel overseas for the inaugural championships and compete among some of the best swimmers in a world-class facility.

“I am confident in the work I have been putting in with Dave Farmer at the pool and Janelle Chase-Mayers at CrossFit 246 so I am eager to go out there and do the best that I can for myself and my country.”

Men’s tri-athlete Niel Skinner and badminton players Kennie King and Gavin Robinson will also be action on the opening day. (AGB)
