Firearm offences are serious crimes which need to be visited with severe penalties.

So said Justice Pamela Beckles as she ordered self-confessed gunman Kiplyn Hallam Ifill to pay a total of $25 000 in fines.

On Monday, Ifill, of Mapp Hill, St Michael, was back in the No. 5 Supreme Court, where he had pleaded guilty to having a .32-calibre H&R Magnum firearm and six rounds of ammunition on June 22, 2010.

The matter was prosecuted by Crown Counsel Danielle Mottley.

Ifill was fined $5 000 forthwith or 18 months in prison for having the ammunition, and $20 000 in three months or four years in jail for the illegal gun. (HLE)
