Former president of the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) Akanni McDowall’s attempt to be reinstated was dismissed yesterday after he was a no-show at a special general meeting.

NUPW acting general secretary Richard Greene gave that update yesterday following a brief meeting to discuss McDowall’s status after he was expelled in October.

“We had a meeting today (yesterday), the meeting was called to order but neither brother Akanni McDowall nor any of his representatives appeared to appeal his expulsion from the union.

“The formalities of calling the meeting to order. We ascertained the quorum, but the business of the meeting was not presented. So since there was no one to present the case of the [McDowall], the appeal was dismissed and then the meeting was adjourned,” Greene said.

The meeting lasted for about 20 minutes.  (TG)
