131 more COVID-19 cases confirmed

Novel coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in Barbados rose by 131 on Saturday, health authorities reported on Sunday.

Out of the 1 158 tests carried out at the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory on Saturday, 63 males and 68 females were confirmed with the viral illness.

Of the new cases, 29 were young people under the age of 18, and 102 were adults 18 years and older.

Health authorities also said 314 people were being attended in public isolation facilities around the island, and 2 136 people were being managed under the home isolation programme.

Of the confirmed 26 095 cases of COVID-19 detected in Barbados, 12 441 have been males and 13 654 females have been females.

Health authorities said one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine has been administered to 153 984 people (67.4 per cent of the eligible population) – but 138 096 people (51 per cent of the total population or 60.5 per cent of the eligible population) were fully vaccinated.

The eligible population refers to anyone 12 years and older that can be administered the vaccine.
