Churches happy with ease

Barbados’ faith-based organisations are a happy bunch after Government yesterday announced that the curfew as part of its Emergency Directives would be suspended for 24 hours from midnight on December 24.

That allows worshippers to attend traditional midnight services at their respective churches.

Still, the religious sector is urging its membership to accept the Christmas gift while still adhering to the COVID-19 public health protocols in every instance.

Roman Catholic Bishop of Bridgetown, Neil Scantlebury, said he was overjoyed at the decision, but at the same time discouraged any feting when there is no curfew.

“This is indeed good news,” he said about the curfew relaxation. “I’m happy we can gather and pray at the traditional time. It is a blessing and a great opportunity for people to give thanks to God, but not to misbehave or ignore the country’s protocols,” he said.
