Bajans stranded without Covid test

A significant number of Barbadians are being stranded at airports in the United States because they were unable to find a location to get an antigen PCR test.

Neval Greenidge, Barbados Consul General to Miami, is therefore urging Barbadians to do their research on how to get the test in the particular state they were travelling from even before they leave Barbados.

Greenidge said Barbadians were having difficulties accessing vaccination centres particularly in large states such as Texas, where sometimes they may have to travel several miles to get to a vaccination centre.

“What is going wrong is Barbadians are leaving home and they are going to far out states where there are not a high number of PCR stations and then some of them are living in areas that are far from where they can probably get a PCR test; and when they are ready to travel they discover that they can’t get to a site to get a test and they become stranded at airports and stranded in hotels.”

He said this was where the situation got complicated because many of them did not have the money to pay all the expenses at a hotel. (MB)
