Government has dispatched funds to facilitate the payment of December salaries of staff at the Open Campus of The University of the West Indies (UWI).

In a statement last night in response to reports the Campus would not be in a position to pay, the Ministry of Education said: “The Barbados Government has consistently, on a monthly basis, paid the approved allocation to the UWI, of which the Open Campus is a beneficiary. To this end, the payment for December 2021 has already been dispatched in a sufficient time frame to facilitate the payment of salaries.”

It added that, to assist the Open Campus with the December payments, it took the initiative to advance the remaining funds allocated for the remainder of the financial year ending March 2022. (PR)
